If you bought Fusion 11 after 18 June 2020 you would have been eligible for a free upgrade to version 12 under the technology guarantee programme. A third year of free updates would be too much to hope for given the degree of changes required. ![]() They instead released version 12 with support for Big Sur. MacOS Big Sur had major changes at the kernel level, which meant it wasn't possible for VMware to do minor tweaks to version 11 to get it working with limitations. You could sometimes get away with continuing to use the previous Fusion version with limitations. That was the second time in recent memory where VMware supported a new host macOS version in a free update: the other was version 8.5 which added support for macOS Sierra.įor every other annual macOS release a new major version of VMware Fusion added official support and it required a paid upgrade. It had free updates for two years including 11.5 in late 2019 which supported macOS Catalina. Provides a brand new version of their mainstream OS (Big Sur) for free!! However VMware's response is to force us to purchase a new version as the version of Fusion I purchased 1 year ago no longer works under Big Sur.įusion 11 was introduced in late 2018 with support for macOS Mojave. ![]()
